Throughout the country, parents are rising up in response to the implementation of Critical Race Theory in school curricula. One such parent in Illinois offered a passionate condemnation of this pernicious ideology in a video which has since gone viral.
While attending a school board meeting, Ty Smith, a black father, decried the school “deliberately” teaching kids “how to hate each other, how to dislike each other.” Critical Race Theory does exactly that – its perspective is inherently racist as it teaches a worldview based solely through the lens of race. Smith said, “You going to deliberately teach kids, ‘This white kid right here got it better than you because he’s white?’ You going to purposely tell a white kid, ‘Oh, the black people are all down and suppressed.’”
“How do I have two medical degrees if I’m oppressed?”

Smith referenced his individual experience as a black man in America, explaining that although he was met with challenge after challenge, he ultimately attained success through his own merit. “How do I have two medical degrees if I’m sitting here oppressed?” he challenged. Even without the guidance and support of parents, Smith’s hard work ethic provided him with all that was necessary to better his circumstances: “Two medical degrees. No mom, no dad in the house. Worked my way through college, sat there and hustled my butt off to get through college.”
He protested the ridiculous idea that his race, or that of a white person’s, ever affected his potential. “You going to tell me somebody look[ing] like all y’all white folks kept me from doing it? Are you serious?” He continued, “Not one white person ever came to me and said, ‘Well, son, you’re never gonna be able to get nowhere because, you know, the black people.’”
Smith affirmed Critical Race Theory to be a “lie”, asking, “How am I now directing over folks that look just like you guys in this room right now? How? What kept me down? What oppressed me?” Incredulously, he exclaimed, “Are you kidding me? This is what we’ve come to? I can’t believe we even talking about this right now.”
In one poignant moment, Smith asked those present, “Martin Luther King said he wanted his kids to grow up in the world where they are judged by the contents of their what?” He was met with an audible response from all – “Character.” In agreement he said, “Their character. Not their skin.” Smith’s impressive monologue concluded with a guarantee that if CRT is imposed on the students that he, to the day that he dies, will be “the very person right there debunking this stuff, tearing stuff down, letting them know they can do exactly what I did and get exactly where I am by putting themselves to work.”
He concluded, “Not one white person [is] ever going to keep any of them from getting there. So CRT stuff, BS.” It is vital that every American adopt Smith’s same ardor in combating this despicable and racist doctrine.
